Poker Chip Bounce

Dutch Boyd is the only player I have seen do this trick. He did it during the chip tricks segment of the 2003 World Series of Poker. There isn’t anything exciting about the trick and it’s not very tough either. It’s just hard to perform it consistently. You may have heard it called the “chip bounce.”

Before you begin

Trick Difficulty - 2
Chips needed - 6 or more

Tutorial

To start the trick, place all but one of the chips in a stack on the table. Take the other chip in your hand.

Tip
This trick works best on a table with a surface that has some give to it, such as a felt poker table. The softer surface allows for a good bounce of the chip.

Hold the chip with your index finger and thumb so that it is perpendicular to the table. Tilt the top of the chip about 5-10 degrees in the direction of the stack of chips. Drop the chip so that it lands on its edge about an inch or two away from the stack. Because of the angle the chip was titled, it will bounce up and onto the stack…at least it will when it works.

Note
This trick is all relative to the type of surface you are using. You may need to hold the chip higher off the table when dropping it or make it bounce a certain distance away from the stack for it to work. It’s really all just trial and error

Ditto on practice and a pre drop routine lends itself towards consistant success. I work from home and am locked at my desk with the monitor that sits straight in front of me. Last year I took one of the standard Poker table tops(walmart and other stores carry the same type)and I unscrewed 1/2 the table ….and velcro’d it to the top in just minutes.Velcro because it was sliding if bumped. When the first 1/2 wears out….On will go the other half in the same spot.

Picture a Blackjack Table and I would be in the dealers position. I did it for a goof and I practice
daily and can do most every trick shown on this site.

When anyone stops by they have a section of table to play or practice and watch the vids here from either the 1st or 3rd Base side of me at home(the center or dealers position.

Definately there are “Hot spots” on the surface like closer to the center as compared to the edge or sides that are now pressed down where arms have rested.

Q: With respect of not dropping at ridiculous heights and in relation to being relatively consistant as possible…Has anyone dropped and correctly landed anything to comment about and how many chips were stacked ?

When I practice I play what I call “How High can you go” or “High Jump stacking” which simply is increasing chip by chip as you successfully make attempts. 3 Misses at any one height and you are out and then count the chips in the stack. You may reposition the stack after an attempt if needed.
23 vertical so far during any one session is my tops.
The derop height is approx twice the stack height.

My point to all this is as I increased the height… fundamentals and repitition with accuracy were needed and the residual was anything lower is now almost a given to be made.

Walk then run. Great tips here . Thanks

I started out using a mouse pad too. Any tricks that are done on the table can be done on a mouse pad. If you are a begginer use a mouse pad.

I did this trick on my mouse pad thats reely bouncy and found that if u kinda give a little more force wen droping the chip u can make it do a flip and land.

Holy cow…sitting around trying to get the angle on my computer table (using quarters) and made it leap to the stack, flip over the top of the stack, and land on theother side…it looked pretty cool…just play around with your angles, and you can do cool stuff with this trick…still can’t land it though

if anyone is having trouble with this i suggest using your mouse pad, it gets great bounce. you will have to adjust if u jump from table to table as i do but at least if u nail it down using your pad u can amuse yourself, family, or girlfriend while playing those long drawn-out on line tournaments. good luck

I have been doing this trick for a while and works best when you have been at the same table for a long time - for cosistancy.

If you have a table at home, for home games you should be able to get this one, but if you jump from table to table, casino to casino it will be more dificult.

If i’m playing blackjack and find myself doing this trick, I know its time to go to bed.
