Shuffle
Can you name a player that you haven’t seen shuffle chips during the World Poker Tour or World Series of Poker episodes? The sound of shuffling chips can be heard in poker rooms around the world. It happens to be my favorite trick, because once you learn it, you can’t stop. Another popular name for the shuffle is “riffle.”
Before you begin
Trick Difficulty - 2
Chips needed - 6 or more (even numbers work best)
Tutorial
To start this trick, place two stacks of chips (3 chips per stack) side by side on a table.
Practice on a table with a soft surface (such as a poker table) or on a hard pillow. A softer surface will make it easier to lift each stack properly.
For each stack use a different color of poker chip. This will allow you to see if the chips were properly shuffled.
The tutorial will explain how to perform the trick with your right hand.
Start by placing the thumb on the lower left corner of the left stack and the index finger on the upper left corner. The middle finger is placed in the space between the top of the two stacks. The ring finger is placed on the upper right corner of the right stack and the pinky on the lower right corner.
Others like to place the thumb at the middle of the left stack, the index finger in the space at the top of the two stacks, and the other three fingers on the right side of the right stack. I believe this method is harder because you don’t have as much control over the left stack. By using two fingers on the sides of each stack you have much more stability.
Lift up on both stacks with the middle finger. As you lift, lightly push each stack in with the fingers holding the outside edges. Ease up on the pressure applied by the middle finger, let gravity takes its course, and the two stacks will come together as one, alternating chips from each stack.
Once you learn the trick, you don’t even actually push the stacks in. You can use all of your fingers to lift up the stacks and by lifting a little bit more with the middle finger, the chips will easily fall into place.
The Shuffle mousepad makes a place to practice this chip trick on. The mousepad has a soft cloth surface with padding that will allow you to easily pick the chips up. It makes a great gift for the poker player who plays online poker at home or takes a few poker chips to work to practice their tricks.Videos

I am 14 and I love this site. Its soooo cool!!! I learned the riffling chips trick in 5 minutes and my dad still can’t riffle like me i have really decent clay poker chips that are brand new and they are so easy to riffle. I started off using my left hand which i thought would be easier. But why is it that I can only riffle with my right and no my left hand? As I am left handed it is very frustrating.

I tried so may things to did the chip shuffle, and I am happy to say this technique woked like a charm in about 15 minutes. Nothing else has worked for my big hands and heavy chips. thanks a ton.

I have got this trick down to a certain point. I can consistently do the trick with 10 chips (5 on each side). I can also almost do 12 every time. But when I get to 14 chips, I have serious problems, especially with the top chip on the right. It should go between the top two chips on the left, but it often goes over the top of them. This also happens some of the times I do the trick with 12 chips.
What am I doing wrong??
Btw. it is not every time the chips click event with fewer than 12 chips. They often just shuffle without clicking, or not clicking one chip at a time. What is the reason for this??

Disco poker makes a great point. There is very little hand movement.

I know it sounds really dumb, but do not look at the chips while learning feel them with your fingers, looking at them waiting for them to fall into place will only fustrate more, it works honest also im tight handed and feel at ease doing it in my left hand….. DON’T LOOK…..JUST FEEL… BE GENTLE, those who’s chips are sliding have to much hand movement, there is very little movement

Is that 8 on each side (16 in total) cos I can do that fairly comfortably but any more than that it gets really slow and staggered. Plus also the arch of my hand over the chips starts to touch the top and i can barely reach down and lift up the chips . . . doubt that makes sense to anyone but i tried . . .

It took me about an hour to get to perfect results every time on shuffling 6, but I couldn’t possible get 8 to work. Then I sat down, read the instructions again, watched the videon and nailed it and now I have only slight problem with the 8. Thanks for GREAT instructions!

It’s amazing…just like randy in the post before..I’ve been trying with my right hand and get it occasionally and now I just tried it with my left hand and I get it maybe 2 out of 6 times almost immediately…and I’m a righty too!!

I have struggled with the middle finger to raise the chips for months. I could shuffle with the index finger raise much easier, but often had the stack shoot out to the side.
Just discovered my right middle finger doesn’t raise up. Tried with my left hand and have mastered in 15 minutes.
Amazing!
