Poker Chip Pickover

As far as I know, I made this trick up. I’ve never seen it done on TV or anywhere else. I was messing around with chips in my car on the way home from work one day and stumbled across this new trick. It’s not the easiest of tricks because I can’t even do it very good and I made it up.

Before you begin

Trick Difficulty - 2
Chips needed - 4 or 5

Tutorial

Start with the chips in between your middle and ring fingers so that hey are perpendicular to the fingers.

Tip #1
The pressure applied by your fingers needs to be significant to hold the chips in place because there isn’t a finger in the back supporting them.

Using your thumb, roll the chip closest to the finger tips up onto the middle finger a little bit. Place your index finger right next to the middle finger and then continue to roll the chip up onto the index finger. Once you have a grip on the chip with your thumb and index finger, raise the chip up over the line of chips.

Tip #2
Make sure to lift the chip high enough so that it does not brush up against the line of chips, otherwise it will twist and you will not be able to replace the chip in line.

Once the chip is high enough, pull it in towards your palm and then drop it in place behind the line of chips. When the chip is in place, secure it by adjusting your grip with the middle and ring fingers.

Note
What makes this trick difficult is the fact that you are only holding the line of chips with two fingers. It is also hard to pick the chip up high enough to get over the top of the other chips.

This trick is definately not an original, this is a trick very common in australia, and known as the pick n roll.
This trick, allbeit very basic can b modified to include more than 10 chips at once…
My poker buddies record is 5 chips lifted ova 5 at a time
Great site; just rename the trick please!!

I do this in a bit different way. Instead of rolling the chip on the side, I just lift it over the others. I guess I’ve got big hands, because I can do it with up to 10 chips.

Whoops, forgot to change that long ago when I modified the category it was in. I’ve modified it at the top of the post.

Great site, but this should be under difficulty of 3 because that is what level you have said next to the name.

god this is agitating!! i can do the shuffle fine, and i can almost do the twirl, and both of those are “harder” than this, but i cannot do this one at all! i can’t move the chip back behind the others. i can separate it, but it won’t slide back, it always falls, help!!

I had an experience similar to the previous posters - I have fairly long, skinny fingers and this trick was quite easy. I think it is because with longer fingers it is easier to get the elevation needed to clear the moving chip over the rest of the stack and at the same time maintain the “cradle” with the middle and ring finger so the stack doesn’t move.

    Great site, thanks!
