Poker Chip Swirl

The Swirl, by Sky Mullenaux, is a variation of the twirl.

Tutorial

The swirl is a simple trick

  1. Take 3 or 4 chips and hold them like you would for the thumb flip or the regular twirl.
  2. Now remove your index finger keeping hold of the chips with the thumb and index.
  3. Pull back your ring finger and get the last chip on your ring finger as close to your nail as you can.
  4. Roll the chip out and do a twirl with the middle finger.
  5. After you have twirled it 180 degrees and your index finger is behind the chip push/rotate it a few more degrees and put the chip in front.

Here’s a simpler description if you already can do the twirl:

Do a twirl, but when you put the middle chip back, stick it in the back or front of the stack instead of in the middle. Under-rotate to make it fall to the back, over-rotate to make it go up front. (Told you that was simple.)

If you alternate between front and back and use two or three different chip colors, you get a slow blinking effect. I do a thumb lift of the outer two chips instead of dropping the inner one, so it’s possible to do it very nonchalantly and fairly rapidly. I always know where that middle chip is and don’t have to re-position it before twirling it (and almost never drop it now).

i believe some of the instructions are wrong, in step #2 it says to remove the index, while keeping hold of the chips with the thumb and index
